In Flight
Whenever I travel back to NY, I transform into a giddy schoolgirl. All decorum, concentration and patience goes to the wayside about 24 hours before departure.
I have 3 nights of fun in NY. Only 3 nights to soak up the city. And currently, it is raining cats and dogs so I’m wondering if I’ll land in time to have my planned Sunday evening outing. For me, there is nothing worse than arriving at your destination, and spending the night doing nothing. I’m not the kind of girl who lands and wants to “chill out” in her hotel room the first night, getting on NY time. What is NY time anyway?
As soon as the wheels touch down in NY, no matter how sleepy I may have been at the start of my journey, my adrenaline is pumping. I want to get into the city and start my evening. Traffic from the airport makes me impatient. It’s not the cab driver’s fault but I JUST WANT TO BE THERE! If I could be like Samantha from Bewitched, I would just crinkle my nose and be there. Of course, if I had those powers, why would I be on VirginAmerica? And there’s a lot of other things in my life that would be different too, but let’s not go there. I’m not Samantha.
So, if you don’t have those powers, VirginAmerica is the way to fly! It is luxury in an economy package. I can plug in my laptop and be creative. I can press some buttons and order food and drink when I want to. I can watch movies. Listen to music and play as much as I can to make the hours between LA and NY go as fast as possible.
And once I get to NY it’s full throttle. I want to be at: Bar Carrera sipping Spanish wine, indulging in some tapas and dangling my stilettos from the bar stool; Lucien and Pastis for that French, crowded bar/cafe scene; Pylos in the East Village for amazing greek food; the bar at the Four Seasons restaurant (not the hotel -- the classic 1950’s venue with the pool room) for a traditional martini; and all the other places that I don’t know about yet but hope to discover through someone else’s NY favorites list.
I just want to land and feel the city. NOW.
Of course, it would make good sense to go to bed early as my flight takes off at 7:30 am. But, as usual, I’ll barely sleep and somehow be ready to hit the streets of NY that night.
More to come soon. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of new stories and photographs after a few days in New York.
Big Kiss to all my lovely LA friends. You know I love you even if I pine for NY sometimes.
