What can I say? Everyone has their own way of visualizing the holiday season.
This is a collection of images from LA, NY and Paris. I’m kind of endeared to the reindeer in my friend Helene’s shop window (Ige).
So, whether your style is “old village Paris”, stark modernism, or using as many lights as you can possibly jam onto your front lawn, tis the season.
For some last minute shopping spots:
Beige -- on Beverly in West Hollywood for a chic party dress and fabulous shoes at prices that won’t give you too much guilt in these depressed economic times. Come on, everyone needs a little bit of a treat. That is, if you’ve been a good boy or girl this year!
Ige -- on Beverly in West Hollywood for an array of delightful gifts for all ages.
Barneys New York -- because it’s now 75% off there.
A plus R (Silver Lake and Abbott Kinney in Venice) -- because Rose and Andy have a great selection of modern lifestyle objects for the style conscious people in your life.
Arp on 3rd in West Hollywood -- if you’re looking for a fabulous bauble for a loved one and you’re willing to spend some money for a handcrafted, timeless work of art then go there. Ted Muehling and more. Plus, there are some beautiful objects for the home there too. A special treat. Surely someone in your life deserves one.
Joan’s on Third (on 3rd) in West Hollywood -- for anyone on your list who loves gourmet food treats.
K and L wines on Vine Street in Hollywood -- the best wine and champagne collection that offers sublime tastes for all budgets.
Silverlake Cheese Shop on Sunset in Silverlake -- savory and sweet gourmet food gifts, cheeses that will melt any grinches’ heart and a convivial atmosphere that puts you in the holiday spirit.
Intelligentsia on Sunset in Silverlake (next to the Cheese Shop) -- because if you know any coffee lovers, this is the ultimate coffee gift of love. The beans change monthly depending on what the “Coffee Purchaser” finds around the world to bring home and roast. This month
the “Zirikana, Rwanda” beans are divine and a lovely gift for any one who adores their morning cup of coffee at home. Tasting notes: Acidity: Citrus, crisp
Flavor: Licorice, cider, dried berry
Finish: Mulling spice, clean
Henessey Ingalls in Santa Monica on Wilshire or the new Hollywood outpost by Ivar -- for the BEST collection of books related to art, design, photography. I get lost in there, spending hours leafing through all the books I dream of owning someday.
That’s it my friends. Have a great holiday. I’m sure there will be one more blog before New Years. And most certainly a blog post New Years as I am attending a party in Silverlake that will undoubtedly be filled with lots of great stories and visuals. The theme this year: Alpine oh Nine. So, I’ll don my best “Audrey Hepburn in the Swiss Alps” look and ring in ’09 with my people.
